Having family traveling from across Australia and across the world to share in their special day, Simon and Hannah stopped at nothing to create the most magical, fun filled day for their wedding guests. To start with they chose the beautiful Whitsundays for it’s warm climate and range of activities to enjoy before and after the wedding day itself.
For their big day the couple chose to have both ceremony and reception at the same location – a common occurrence with many weddings. However, to mix things up, the bride and groom chose to have a pre-dinner venue as well, taking their 35 guests on Sundowner Cruises for a 2-hour sunset cruise. This not only provided a fun activity between ceremony and reception, but also allowed the venue to be re-sent and transformed for the evening. As a bonus, they had their photographer join them on the cruise to make the most of the many candid moments.
Why did you choose the Whitsundays for your Wedding?
We chose Airlie Beach as we had visited on our campervan travels when we arrived in Australia. We loved its easy going and laid back nature along with the beautiful surroundings and scenery.
How long did you stay in the Whitsundays and what did you get up to?
We stayed for one week at Airlie Beach and spent four days on Hamilton Island, both were beautiful! Guests enjoyed trips to Whitehaven Beach, skydiving and a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef.
Why did you choose the Sailing Club for your wedding ceremony and location?
We chose the Pavilion as it was simply stunning.
It was a blank canvas with amazing views.
This allowed us to plan exactly what we wanted for our special day.
What was the best thing about having a destination wedding?
We loved the warm climate and beautiful scenery and that we were able to celebrate with family and friends, who travelled from England and Melbourne to join us.
We also got to work with The Wedding Planners Whitsundays and the rest of the amazing team who helped to create our perfect day!
Did your wedding have a theme or a particular style?
I initially chose my dress because I loved the vintage style and flattering cut. As I began planning, a theme developed that was art deco inspired. I wore earrings that a friend gave me for my 30th birthday that were a perfect match, and I wore shoes from Alan Pinkus at Myer.
What did you do for your Hens and Bucks nights?
I (Hannah) enjoyed a winery bus tour around the Yarra Valley and Simon enjoyed a day at the races.
What was your wedding budget?
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged on accommodation for both the wedding and Honeymoon but it was definitely worth it!!
We saved on bridal hair for myself, bridesmaids and mother of the bride and groom as my amazingly talented cousin owns a Melbourne hair salon and she kindly provided her services for free on the day!
We also saved on invites and wedding stationary as my very creative brother in-law designed them for free, we just had to pay for printing costs!
