Sam and Blake met each other in high school at the age of 12 where they shared each other’s first kiss at their year 7 school social. They always dreamt of planning a wedding with a beautiful backdrop and some greenery. They could not look past a wedding in the beautiful Whitsundays, which is full of potential for a destination wedding!

Tell us about the proposal

It was the most magical proposal ever!! Blake had surprised me and booked a trip to Canada for Christmas. On Christmas day we had breakfast on top of one of the mountains, during the day we relaxed by the fire having a few drinks where later that night we went on a romantic sleigh ride. We then got off the sleigh to get a photo, when Blake got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. That night we then went out for a fondu dinner where we had out own private brandy bar. It was the most amazing day, especially as I have always wanted to experience a white Christmas, so that year was extra special.

Why did you choose Airlie Beach for your destination wedding?

We wanted to have a location wedding, with warm weather. Blake always wanted somewhere with a beautiful back drop and I wanted to have some form of  greenery. So, after looking online for months we found Airlie Beach, Lure in particular. After checking out the venue and falling in love we came across the Sailing Club and we knew straight away it was meant to be.

We wanted a location wedding with warm weather, we knew straight away Airlie Beach was the location.

Key Styling Inspiration

We are not a big fan of bold coloring’s so I had always visioned a white and green palette. A lot of styling came to mind with most help coming from Instagram and Pinterest.

What gifts did you give your guests?

We gave our guests ring shaped cookies and macaroons along with laser cut acrylic name tags.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We stayed Airlie Beach for 4 nights at Pinnacles Resort where we went jet skiing. We went on a trip to Whitehaven Beach and a scenic flight over the Whitsundays and the Heart Reef. We then went to Hawaii for 1 week where we stayed in a beautiful beach cottage at Turtle Bay Resort. We went paddle boarding with sea turtles which was amazing!! All of this followed by a few nights at the Hilton Resort Village Waikiki.

What was the funniest moment from the day?

There was so many funny moments during the day but when Blake and I went to pop the champagne bottle and it popped without warning – luckily it didn’t take anyone’s eye out!! Definitely all the wedding speeches, too!

What was the most special memory from the day?

Ohhh, there is just too many! Obviously the entire day was so special but I would say having my Dad walk me down the aisle was very special for me. Having all of our friends and family travel all the way from other states to be there to help celebrate our special day.

Another moment was when we surprised our Bridal Party with a sunset cruise. We kept this a secret from everyone, so it was so nice to see the look on their faces when we were on the yacht sailing away. As well as us arriving at the reception where all our guests were awaiting our arrival on the balcony.

AND having my Aunty sing and get everyone up dancing was pretty amazing!

What advice would you give other brides to be?

The day goes so quick and is a blur so my advice is if your budget allows it get you special day filmed, because watching it over our wedding videos is simply amazing and takes us back to the most amazing day in our life.

Take every moment in and have time to just relax and be in the company of your wife/husband and bridal party before the evening’s festivities!

You only ever plan to get married once so make the most of it and have fun!!

Special Thanks to

A big special thanks to my amazing husband who literally gave me my dream wedding, our parents for all the support. Our beautiful bridal party for all the help along the way (the girls) and to making our day so fun and special.
